FWOUST Questionnaire: Christopher Livingston

What is your greatest fear?
Drowning.  I came close to it in the summer of 2012 in a lake.  I couldn’t fight the current and the more tired I got, the more my muscles gave out.  I started to dip under water and I became terrifyingly aware of my mortality. I’m not a strong swimmer and I’m still a little scared of lakes and oceans.
What inspires you?
Learning about The Law of Attraction and how to use it.
What compliment would you most like to receive?
That I make smart, active, positive choices in life.
What is your most marked characteristic?
That I’m a nice person?… I don’t know.
Where and when were you happiest?
The Christmas of ’92 or ’93.  Almost everyone stayed the night at our house.  There were presents and good food.  My mom got me a Sega Genesis and my cousins and I stayed up all night playing Street Fighter II until they beat the game.   Life was so much simpler then.
What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
That I care too much what other people think of me.
What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Arrogance.
Who is your favorite fictional hero?
Dream from The Sandman series by Neil Gaiman
Which historical figures do you most admire?
Malcolm X
What injustice galls you most?
This varies.  What comes to mind now is the misunderstanding that Black Lives Matter is somehow meant to take away the value of non-black lives, instead of calling out the injustices that black people have experienced at the hands of the criminal justice system, and really since we were brought in here in slave ships.  The fact that patriotic people (most of them white) are upset that NFL players are taking the knee really bothers me.  People feel that these players should be grateful for what this country has given them.  That argument feels patronizing to me and at its core racist.  Some are comfortable within their privilege and are extremely resistant to change/progress. That galls me.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I’d apologize less.
What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Hmmm…I don’t know.  I’ll have to get back to you on that one.
Where would you like to live?
I love NY but Seattle is home.  I wouldn’t mind moving back there one day.
What is your favorite indulgence?
Hmm… whiskey.  I also indulge in the Real Housewives of Atlanta and New Jersey.
What was your first love?
Drawing and Coloring.  I still sometimes enjoy an adult coloring book.
What is your motto?
I don’t really have one but what comes to mind is the song “Never Say Never” from An American Tail. That was also the first movie that made me cry.  I was a toddler.
What would you like printed on your gravestone?
Wow, that’s a really hard question to answer.  I’ve never thought about it but I guess “He did great things” would be nice.  I’m interested in how I’d answer that 30 years from now.
